Undergraduate Research Assistants
Ami Shiddapur is a sophomore Biology major and Fine Arts minor. She loves to paint and watch sci-fi movies, and hopes to become an OBGYN. She is working with Andrew to study the effects of binge eating on neuronal stress circuits.
Rachel Calloway is a senior double Biology and Hispanic Linguistics major. She loves reading and chocolate gelato (especially from Florence, Italy), and hopes to go to Dental School. She is working with Lara Hwa to study how long-term alcohol drinking affects stress reactivity and neuropeptides in discrete brain regions of mice.
Ava Erfani is an undergraduate research assistant and currently a freshman at UNC from Charlotte, North Carolina. She is majoring in Chemistry with a Neuroscience minor and plans to continue her career in science by pursuing a graduate degree involving neuroscience. When she is not in class, library hopping, or in the lab, she enjoys listening to philosophy podcasts, playing the piano, and spending time trying out the plethora of Chapel Hill/Carrboro restaurants
Shivani Desai is a junior double majoring in Biology and Psychology. She loves Harry Potter and visiting new coffee shops, and hopes to go to medical school. She is working with Dan to look at the effects of chronic morphine on depressive and social withdrawal behaviors.
Chiazam Omenyi is a senior Biology major from Maryland interested in pursuing a MD/PhD in the future. She is working with Melanie to investigate the effects of morphine withdrawal in the insular cortex. In her free time, Chiazam likes to watch her favorite shows (Desperate Housewives and 24), spend time with friends and family, and catch up on sleep.
